A night at a riverside camp, with a bonfire and the sound of the Ganga, is a favourite with groups. Most camps are upriver from town around Shivpuri and beyond.
What’s usually included
- A tent or cottage with beds and bathrooms (shared or attached).
- Dinner and breakfast, often a bonfire and music.
- Rafting from the camp the next morning, or volleyball and short walks.
When to go
Camps run mainly from September–October to June, the same months as rafting. Summer nights are warm; winter nights by the river are cold, so ask about heaters and blankets.
Choosing a camp
- Camping on the river beaches themselves is tightly regulated, so most camps sit on terraces above the river. Choose a registered operator.
- Check recent reviews for cleanliness and noise.
- Ask about the road down to the camp if you’re driving a small car.
Camp one night, hotel the rest
Many guests camp for one night and spend the rest of the trip in Tapovan, close to cafés, yoga and the aarti. Our Adventure Weekend combines both, or see where to stay in Rishikesh.
