Winter is one of the loveliest times in Rishikesh: clear skies, warm sun by day and cold, crisp nights.
Weather
Days are usually mild and sunny, while nights and early mornings get cold, especially by the river. Fog can sit over the valley on some January mornings.
What to pack
- A warm jacket, a sweater and layers for early starts.
- Warm socks for the ashrams and temples, where you’ll take off your shoes.
- Sunscreen: the winter sun is strong.
Christmas and New Year
The last two weeks of December are among the busiest of the year, with higher rates and minimum stays. Book early, and note our peak-date cancellation terms.
What to do
- Rafting runs in winter; the water is cold, so wetsuits help.
- Clear views from Kunjapuri at sunrise.
- Yoga in the winter sun: choosing a class.
- Snow is a short trip away: the Auli Snow Holiday and Chopta–Tungnath trek.
